We humans crave for pets. Men adopted women as as pets, and women adopted animals. It’s a circle of adoption and mutual adaptation. The similitude between the ‘cute’ animals in Amy’s paintings and the women is obvious, one can only wonder who is the pet and in whose world. It seems that we derive so much out of petting, caressing and loving. But this is not all, we derive as much from being petted, caressed and loved. This symmetry, so natural, didn’t exist in our life, men weren’t petted by anyone. However, things change, and now the need in us all is out of hiding, and ours is a world of pets and masters. In Amy’s world both sides take both roles in an homage to the past. Men aside, this world is symmetric and in that way perfect. Amy’s is a combination of Manga, folk and all which is soft and pleasant to touch. You can see more and get prints and such on her website.

quite the lush writeup on Amy’s art. Kudos
thanks
The element of touch is an integral part of life. To be touched and to touch is not only intimate, but necessary to connect with one another and feel life at that moment. This intense feeling of a soothing, warm, enchanting touch molds itself into petting.
This gesture is universal and often unspoken. For words are not of importance, only touch…
Amy Sol is one of the hottest emerging artists on the market. I first learned about her after reading an interview she did with Brian Sherwin for the Myartspace Blog at http://www.myartspace.com/interviews. She is probably still on that list if you want to check it out. They also have interviews with Sas Christian, Alex Grey and other artists that are considered underground or pop surrealists.

[...] For all the girls out there who ever wanted a pony. For all the boys out there who ever wanted a girl. Oh, maybe it should go the other way around… For all the ponies out there who ever wanted a boy, for the girls out there who… Ah, it’s not that it all sounds wrong, it just all sounds right. So, let’s try this way: to all these who ever wanted something to pet. Yes, back again to our petting theme. But, no, it’s not the same. Amy Sol’s petting is that of cuteness and sweetness, and here the petting is erotic, the kind of sex. But, naturally, it’s actually quite the same. To all of you, it goes like this: There was once a girl who received a pony, which she loved so much that it stained her forever.
