Siren Music: Hope Sandoval and the Warm Inventions Trouble

Trouble [MP3]
Since the debut of Mazzy Star in the early 90’s, Hope Sandoval has been a modern icon of psychedelic dream pop. “Trouble”, the fresh single from her upcoming album Through the Devil Softly (2009), features Hope’s hypnotic and soft vocals interwoven with hypnotizing ethereal arrangements. Hope Sandoval’s much anticipated full-length, her first in eight years, will be released via Nettwerk on September 29.

And a small reminder of why we are looking forward for this album so much:

Good Pop: Windy & Destiny – Words For Such A Riot

10-Nov-07

Dear Grace [MP3]
In Another Day [MP3]
Good Pop: Windy & Destiny Words For Such A RiotPop is a music genre just like any other. It’s not this radical sellout that we witness over the last few years, which is usually not even based in the fact that there was something to sellout at first. Pop started before Rock at it was made to be popular, but it was also made to be of high quality. The Brill Building and Tin Pan Alley guys were real and excellent musicians who made enchanting melodies. Now I feel I can present you with a wonderful new Pop record that will warm and lighten up your winter days. Windy & Destiny’s debut (released on Earsay records) is a well crafted Indie Pop record. It’s light but heartfelt lyrics covered with thin breezy tunes. A most wonderful winter treat.

Dictating Masterpieces: Big Brother and the Holding Company – Cheap Thrills

04-Mar-07

Piece Of My Heart [MP3]
I Need A Man To Love [MP3]
Magic Of Love (Live) [MP3]
Combination Of The Two [MP3]
Dictating Masterpieces: Big Brother and the Holding Company Cheap ThrillsA masterpiece stand out and cries out loud its status, claiming its place in our culture for a long time. Some might say that a masterpiece is measured by withstanding the effects of time, however this is not the case. A masterpiece is temporal like us all. Men, aspiring to eternity, creates trying to achieve perpetuation, but fails time after time. This does not come to undermine the value of a true masterpiece.
After saying all that I would like to say that Cheap Thrills is no masterpiece. Mistake not, this is a not a masterpiece. A masterpiece follows and ideal, Cheap Thrills is this idea in its purest form. Cheap Thrills, with Janis Joplin screaming with joy, is a an ideal in the sense Aristotle defined them to be, all the rest is just copies. Some are beautiful copies, but they are not Cheap Thrills. The just follow.

Victorian Funk: The Shortwave Set – The Debt Collection

27-Jul-06

Is It Any Wonder [MP3]
Figures of ‘62 [MP3]
Victorian Funk: The Shortwave Set The Debt CollectionQueen Victoria on a horse is one funky lady. Drinking tea with the pinkie way up in the air (like a fearful soldier) is the utmost climax of funkadelica. Cricket is funky. The part where the rich aristocrats go and stomp on the grass in the middle of the cricket match – way cool. The Jubilee line in London – by far the tube with the most hype. Just look, can’t you see it? Well, if you can’t, then you just didn’t put the right glasses on. So stare into life, even if just for a few minutes, through the Shortwave Set’s music, and hocus pokus, gika docos – hail the queen and god save this trip, because if it could last forever, I would definitely build my castle on the outskirts of Buckingham palace and drink a morning tea with the queen every morning. I already can see how this castle of mine looks like. Can you? (just go and listen, you will see).
